Our Vision

Our Mission
Our centre is committed to providing an enriching and challenging developmental environment where each child is encouraged to grow to their fullest potential emotionally, socially and intellectually. Children will learn about their day-to-day environment and about themselves. Our aim is to develop a love of learning which will stay with them for life.

Our Philosophy

is to provide a developmentally appropriate program for young children that fosters the whole child concept, respects each child as an individual and stimulates a child’s natural interest in, and enjoyment of learning which will lead to provision of continuity of learning.

At Barnes Street ELC, we respect and believe in each child as a unique individual with the ability to construct knowledge about themselves, others, and the world around them through active learning.

Every child needs interesting and enjoyable learning experiences that will provide a challenge to their natural curiosity, encourage creativity and inspire love for learning, who develop at their own pace through play, exploration and discovery of their environment and through interactions with the people around them as they become beings who belong and are connected to the world they live in.

We aim to provide a friendly, nurturing and welcoming environment for children and parents from diverse cultural backgrounds who are involved and respected.

Our program seeks to assist children to understand the environment that continually influences their lives as we plan activities, listening to their voices/ideas in consultation with their families that aims to take an active role in caring for the environment and contribute to its sustainable future which is based on Early Learning Years Framework.

Our philosophy fosters the growth of positive attitudes and values towards learning to make them become holistic being that belongs in the world they live in taking care and respecting the environment and people around the world. Each child will be listened to, guided, encouraged and challenged to promote learning and self worth. Each child will be treated as an equal participant of our society.

Children will be encouraged to accept others individuality and respect differences in cultures, attitudes, abilities and gender. We value the importance of the child as part of a family.

We believe that family plays an important role within the child’s development. Our Educators work to build relationships with families with the aim of understanding each child’s individual strengths, abilities and individual needs, valuing the comments and suggestions provided in their child’s program and when making decisions such as policy development. Open communication between staff and families will increase our ability to help each child develop to their fullest potential as we raised them to become productive members of the community.

At Barnes Street Early Learning Centre, we understand our surrounding community will also impact a child’s life. We will bring the community into our centre by exploring local and global events and in-services, while also exploring our wider community through excursions. We will be a role model in the community in caring for the environment to a sustainable future.

Our Educators are valuable resources and will act as role models in all interactions with children, parents and other staff. Educator’s voices, personal philosophies and ideas will be respected and taken into consideration. Their input into the centre is valued and respected. Staff are encouraged to pursue their professional goals and development, their culture and life experiences are valuable resources to be utilized to enrich our service.
